I had a pretty enjoyable city break here! The location is fantastic, with easy access to the beach and some lively attractions nearby. Breakfast was a highlight for me-so many choices, and everything was delicious! The staff was super friendly and made my stay feel cute and comfortable.
On the downside, I did notice the building needs a bit of maintenance; some areas seemed worn out. the check-in process was a bit disorganized, which left a not-so-great first impression. though, I had a good time despite these bumps!

I really enjoyed my stay and felt I got great value for my money. The room was comfortable, and the staff were friendly and on top of things, making the atmosphere really enjoyable.
Breakfast items could use a little less spice on the macaroni.

Staff were always helpful and attentive. Good sea view from very spacious and light room.
As a single traveller I was always being told not to go out on my own - it felt like prison after a few days.

An excellent hotel with good Concierge and Front Desk, however, the service level in the restaurant was lacking. The evening service was okay, but there seem to be too many Managers and too few staff attending to guests. The young staff at breakfast were clueless and no coffee was being offered. I had to request coffee on a few occassions and the first time it was cold as they were just keeping the flask at the back of the room without offering any around to the guests. A pity as this is a very lovely hotel and Management could train their staff better.
To quote the phrase "Too many Chiefs and no Indians", - too many staff walking around doing nothing and many talking amongst themselves. The young staff are far too loud for this kind of hotel and should be taught that you do not chat and giggle throughout the service period of breakfast. It is a superior hotel, but unfortunately the staff are not properly trained. Also the loud shouting and chatting at the front desk is not acceptable if this is supposed to be a 4 or 5 star hotel.

Hi the stay at the hotel was great, the staff is friendly and help full at the restaurant when you eat there, We always stay at protea Edward. I want to thank johnny for his kindness and help to make us comfortable and all the arrangements to get us all over durban he is a star !!!!!
The room service from your kitchen is terribly slow and every time that we ordered coffee it took more than a hour and we receive the coffee ice cold and we did complain at the reception the day when I booked out the said I must pay r3500? Rand and the have only received 2 payments, I gave them copies of my payments and the hotel ows me money that was very embarresing and I feel that kim should have sorted it out as I have asked her on the 15th april for a statement and on the 17th it was not sorted out!!!!!

The recent refurbishment is splendid. The service was good. We were originally given a room that had a very strong smell of paint which even irritated our eyes. We mentioned this to reception and we were moved to another very pleasant suite. We were delighted with this. The staff are polite and the hotel is spotlessly clean.

The details you care about most
The seamless check-in made for a wonderful start. Staff were friendly, ensuring all needs were met, from accommodating luggage to prompt room service. The beach is practically at your doorstep, and the buffet breakfast is a good treat. A bit more attention to housekeeping would elevate the experience further.
